On Monday, August 21, 2017, the Diocese of St. Peter in San Diego welcomed the newly arriving Bishop, His Excellency Mar Emmanuel Shaleta. He was greeted by His Excellency Mar Shlemon Wardni, the Apostolic Administrator, as well as Bishop Sarhad Jammo and Bishop Bawai Soro.
Upon his arrival, His Excellency Bishop Shaleta was also welcomed by the priests of St. Peter's Cathedral, the priests of St. Michael Church, the students of Mar Abba the Great Seminary, the brothers of St. Joseph Monastery, members of the St. Peter's parish council, and the dedicated workers of the diocese.
Following the initial greetings, the clergymen joined in front of the church's altar as Bishop Emmanuel Shaleta was officially welcomed by the bishops and priests. His Excellency Bishop Emmanuel Shaleta then greeted his fellow clergymen and stated his goal of "spreading God's message" and "doing all that he can to keep the word of God thriving in each and every one of his children".
After this, the clergymen gathered together in the Diocese's office and dined together with the new Bishop, who was appointed by Pope Francis on August 9, 2017.
