Father Albert Hisham – The Chaldean Patriarchate Media Administrator: After his visit to the Diocese of Chaldeans in Basra on Tuesday 4 February 2014, to offer congratulations to the new Bishop Habib Al-Nofaly and meet His Beatitude Patriarch Sako and their Excellency the Bishops, Dr Majid Al-Nasrawi, Governor of Basra, promised helping the Christians and giving a piece of land and creating opportunities for work for every Christian returning to the province. His speech took place at the luncheon that was held by Dr. Al-Nasrawi in honor of His Beatitude the Patriarch and the new Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Basra, on a river cruise on Shatt al-Arab, in the presence of their Excellency Nuncio Archbishop Giorgio Lingua, Auxiliary Bishop Shlemon Warduni, and Bishops: Yousif Thomas and Saad Sirop, also Mother Superior Philip Karma, Head of the Sisters of the Chaldean Daughters of Mary, plus members of the provincial Council.
The Governor expressed his joy for the visit of the ecclesial delegation to the city of Basra, and testified to the “daily affairs” that link the province with her Christian sons and wish of the Bishops to encourage the Christians to stay and the ones who left their city to return. From his side, His Beatitude the Patriarch expressed the attention of the Chaldean Church in the southern part of Iraq, where civilization and history, especially the city of Basra, where the first city from which Christianity entered Iraq through the Apostle St. Thomas, through the appointment of a new Bishop after its chair being vacant for more than 10 years.
Besides the Governor, His Beatitude Patriarch Mar Louis Raphael Sako and their Excellencies the Bishops welcomed the well-wishers for the ordination and inauguration of the new Bishop, including a delegation from the city of Nasiriyah, from the city of Ur fans led by Mr. Elijah Al-Kildani, and a delegation from Sabean Mandeans, and the American, the Iranian and Turkish Consuls, and persons of the State’s institutions and tribe elders in the city.
On Thursday morning, His Beatitude Patriarch Sako and their Excellency the Bishops celebrated the Holy Mass in the Chaldean Church of Mar Afram that is adjacent to the diocese, and they all prayed for this city and for the new Bishop to provide him with the power to be a Bishop for all Christians, joining them all under the banner of peace and love.
