Iraqis are living now in fear and anxiety, whereas they wish to live in peace and without problems. The situation is tragic, the conflicts are intense, more than 3 million Iraqis are displaced and there are groups who want this disorder to continue until attrition!
It’s an intense throes and a great danger. We all should be united in front of it, especially at this moment when Iraq is in the bottleneck with internal, regional and international challenges.
The real determination to pursue the national reconciliation program is the basis of every political reform and a prerequisite for ending the conflicts. There can be no reconciliation without loyalty to the “homeland of the Whole” and involving all in the political process. Here we should get out of the mentality of the winner and the loser. Everyone is a winner in the process of reconciliation to make things go in the right direction for establishing a successful State.
The infectious despair and the lethargic awaiting will not produce a miracle. Miracle happens with the blessing of God upon the cooperation of everyone, and the hero is not who makes a war and kills the largest number of people but he who makes reconciliation and peace, who preserves the life, dignity and freedom of persons. Jesus Christ has announced happiness for peacemakers as he said “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God”. (Matthew 5/9).
We pray to God that this Fast may illuminate the insights of everyone, to stand in front of the Creator and in front of their humanity and in front of the homeland with a decision to reconcile in order to resolve the situation. Amen.
