Baghdad: The Sisters of Sacred Heart Open a Monastery for Prayer, and the Franciscan Sisters Re-open their Monastery

The Patriarchate Media: On Monday morning, 2nd of December, His Beatitude Patriarch Louis Raphael Sako visited the new monastery of the Sisters of Sacred Heart which is a house adjacent to the Queen of The Rosary Church in Baghdad. The house occupied by the nuns belonged to the parish priest, the late Father Louis Al-Shabi, and they’ve turned it into a monastery for them.

His Beatitude met sisters Albertine and Mariam and listened to their scheme, and he proposed to them all the support they need. The sisters had distributed the day into: 8 hours of prayer, worship and meditation, 8 hours of work, and 8 hours of rest. It’s an opportunity to promote a spirituality of prayer, worship and meditation for all those interested, and their existence is also a sign of hope for Christians in Baghdad.

Also, the Franciscan sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary have re-opened their monastery next to St. Joseph Syriac Catholic Church, Al-Mansour, which was built with the enthusiasm of Monsignor Pius Kasha.

The existence of nuns and monks in the parish is a sign of vital Church, where His Beatitude called upon the Cardinals during the Plenary Assembly of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches to support the Christian presence in Iraq by sending monks and nuns to open cultural, educational and health institutions, and to help the local clergy.
